Uros Krek

Uroš Krek was a Slovenian composer born on May 21, 1922, in Ljubljana. He studied at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under Lucijan Marija Škerjanc and graduated in 1947. Krek was an editor of symphonic broadcasts and later a chief editor of music on Radiotelevizija Slovenija. He taught at the Music Academy in Ljubljana at the Institute of Ethnomusicology from 1968 until 1982 as a professor of composition and music theory. Krek was a regular member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences. His compositions, which covered virtually all musical ensembles, were noted for incorporating elements of folklore and his best work was created for stringed instruments. He passed away on May 3, 2008, after a long illness.
