Sket obtained his doctorate from the University of Ljubljana in 1961 and became a prominent figure in the scientific community. His work focused on the faunistics of troglobionts and biospeleology, contributing significantly to the understanding of cave ecosystems. Throughout his career, he described over a hundred new species, some genera, and a family of invertebrates, mostly crustaceans and leeches. Sket's legacy includes his role as a professor, his tenure as the rector of the University of Ljubljana, and his membership in the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
