Sigval Bergesen d.y.

Sigval Bergesen d.y. was a Norwegian shipowner and founder of Bergesen d.y. ASA, one of the world's largest shipping companies. He started his career in his father's company in 1916, but broke with him in 1936 to form his own company. He bought his first tanker in the same year and expanded his fleet over the years. He survived the Second World War and became one of the leading figures in the Norwegian shipping industry. He was involved in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and other innovative vessels. He was also a philanthropist who supported various causes, especially in his hometown of Stavanger. He retired in 1976 due to health reasons and passed away in 1980. He left behind a legacy of a successful and influential shipping company that was later acquired by BW Group.
