Ingerid Vardund

Ingerid Vardund was a Norwegian actress who made her mark on stage, film and TV. She was born on 24 April 1927 in Oslo, Norway. She started her career in 1947 at the Chat Noir theatre, and made her film debut in 1952 with Andrine og Kjell. She was known to the Norwegian audience primarily for her roles in the films Jentespranget (1973) and the sitcom Hjemme hos oss (1980). For her role in Jentespranget, she won the award for Best Actress at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival. She also played in several classic plays by Ibsen, such as Nora in A Doll's House, Mrs. Alving in Ghosts, Lona Hessel in Pillars of Society, and Madam Helseth in Rosmersholm. She also excelled in modern drama, such as Honey in Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and the mother in Lars Norén's Night is the Mother of Day. She was employed at the Central Theatre from 1949 to 1958 and at the National Theatre from 1958 to 1993. She also participated in radio plays, most notably as the amateur detective Julia Tinnberg in five series (1979-1994). She received the Aamot Award in 1976 and the Per Aabel Honorary Award in 1984. She published her autobiography Always in Love in 1989. She was married three times, and had a daughter, Ane Vardund, who is also an actress. She died on 25 December 2006 in Oslo, Norway, at the age of 79.
