Andre Bjerke

André Bjerke was a Norwegian writer and poet who wrote in various genres and forms. He made his literary debut in 1940 with a collection of poems called Syngende Jord (Singing Earth). He wrote four mystery novels under the pseudonym Bernhard Borge, as well as essays, articles, and children's books. He was also a prominent translator of works by Shakespeare, Molière, Goethe, and Racine. He was a champion of the Riksmål language during the Norwegian language struggle, and a supporter of anthroposophy. He was married three times and had three children. He died of cancer in 1985 at the age of 66.
