Adeline genee

Adeline Genée was a Danish-British ballet dancer who was one of the leading figures of the Edwardian theatre. She started dancing at the age of three under the guidance of her uncle, Alexandre Genée, who adopted her when she was eight. She made her debut at the age of ten in Oslo and later became the principal dancer of the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen. She moved to London in 1897 and performed at the Empire Theatre for ten years, where she enchanted the audiences with her classical style and grace. She also appeared in musicals such as The Little Michus and The Soul Kiss, and toured the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. She created and choreographed many ballets, such as La Camargo, La Danse, and The Pretty Prentice. She retired from the stage in 1916 and devoted herself to teaching and promoting ballet. She was the founder-president of the Royal Academy of Dancing, which is now one of the world's largest dance organizations. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1950 and became a Dame Commander in 1954. She died in 1970 at the age of 92.
