Eiler Rasmussen Eilersen

Eiler Rasmussen Eilersen was a Danish painter who specialized in landscape painting. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, who introduced him to the genre of marine painting. He travelled extensively in Denmark, capturing the scenery and the atmosphere of the rural areas. He was influenced by the National Romantic movement, but his style was more realistic and naturalistic than idealized. He was often criticized for his lack of color and composition, and he suffered from depression and low self-esteem. He died in 1912 at the age of 85. He is considered to be one of the leading Danish landscape painters of his time, along with P. C. Skovgaard and Johan Lundbye.
