Nicolae Filimon

Nicolae Filimon was a Romanian novelist and short-story writer, known for his contribution to Romanian literature as the author of the first Realist novel, "Ciocoii vechi şi noi". Born in Bucharest, he was the son of an Eastern Orthodox parish priest. An autodidact, Filimon was also a noted travel writer, folklorist, musician, and the first musical critic in Romania. His literary debut was in 1857, and he became known for his in-depth cultural analyses and critiques. Stricken with tuberculosis, Filimon passed away in 1865, leaving behind a legacy that includes his significant novel which offers a critical view of the Wallachian society of his time.
