Constantin Dimitrescu was a Romanian classic composer and music teacher, one of the most prominent representatives of the late Romantic period. He was born on March 19, 1847, in Blejoi, Romania, and passed away on May 9, 1928. Recognized early for his musical talent, he was taken to Bucharest to study cello and composition. Dimitrescu furthered his education in Vienna and Paris, studying with the famous cello virtuoso Auguste Franchomme. Upon returning to Bucharest, he became principal cellist of the Bucharest Philharmonic and the National Theater Orchestra. He also served as a professor at the Bucharest Conservatory and founded Bucharest's first permanent string quartet. His compositions include orchestral and operatic works, as well as chamber music, with a particular love for string quartets, composing seven in total.
