Ignacio Solares

Ignacio Solares was a prominent Mexican novelist, editor and playwright, whose novel La invasión (The Invasion, 2004) was a bestseller in Mexico and Spain. He was also a professor and director of several cultural institutions at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He wrote more than 20 books, including novels, essays, short stories, and plays, exploring themes such as history, fantasy, religion, and psychology. He received several awards and honors for his literary work, such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize, the National Prize of Literature José Fuentes Mares, the Mazatlán Prize of Literature, and the National Prize of Arts and Sciences in Linguistics and Literature. He was also named Doctor Honoris Causa by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua and creator emeritus of the National System of Art Creators. He died on August 24, 2023, at the age of 78.
