Cassius Tocqueville Ionescu Tulcea was a Romanian-American mathematician known for his work in probability theory, statistics, and mathematical analysis. He was born on October 14, 1923, in Bucharest, Romania. After receiving his diploma from the University of Bucharest, he served as a professor and researcher before moving to the United States. In the US, he continued his academic career at several universities, including Yale and Northwestern University. He co-authored significant works with his wife Alexandra and made substantial contributions to lifting theory and stochastic processes. He passed away on March 6, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois, leaving behind a legacy of academic excellence and contributions to mathematics.
