Thomas Rodney Berger, QC, OC, OBC, was a Canadian lawyer, judge, politician, and humanitarian. Born on March 23, 1933, in Victoria, BC, he practiced law in Vancouver from 1957 to 1971. Berger represented the Nisga’a in the landmark Calder case (1973), which led to the recognition of Aboriginal title in Canadian law. He served as a justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia from 1971 to 1983 and was a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia. Berger passed away on April 28, 2021, in Vancouver.
