Inger Hagerup

Inger Hagerup was a Norwegian writer, playwright and poet. She is considered one of the greatest Norwegian poets of the 20th century. She published her first poetry collection, Jeg gikk meg vill i skogene, in 1939. She was also a member of the Communist organisation Mot Dag. She and her husband participated in resistance activities during the Nazi occupation of Norway and fled to Sweden in 1943. She was known for opposing the German occupation, writing many lyrics against the enemy, such as in "Aust Vågøy". She also wrote many poems about love, nature, and human emotions. She was especially known for her innovative poetry for children, such as Så rart and Lille Persille. She also wrote novels, short stories, and plays. She received several literary awards, such as Gyldendal's Endowment, the Sarpsborg Prize, and the Dobloug Prize. She died of cancer in 1985.
