Arnstein Arneberg

Arnstein Arneberg was a Norwegian architect who was active professionally for 50 years and is often considered the leading architect in Norway of his time. He studied at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and worked with several prominent Swedish architects. He established his own practice in Oslo in 1908 and designed many residences, office buildings, churches, and railway stations. He is most famous for his work on the Oslo City Hall (with Magnus Poulsson) and the interior design of the UN Security Council in New York City. He also designed the Viking Ship Museum, the Skaugum estate, the Royal Mausoleum, and many other public and private buildings and monuments. He was awarded several honors and medals, including the Medal of St. Hallvard, the Prince Eugen Medal, and the Order of St. Olav. He was also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. He died in 1961 at the age of 79.
