Jeronimo Trevino

Jerónimo Treviño was a prominent Mexican General and politician who fought in the Reform War and the Second French intervention in Mexico. He gained fame for his bravery and skill in several battles, such as the Siege of Puebla, the Battle of Santa Gertrudis, the Battle of San Jacinto, and the Siege of Querétaro. He was a loyal supporter of President Benito Juárez and later of President Manuel González Flores. He served as the Governor of Nuevo León on several terms, as well as the Secretary of War and Navy of Mexico from 1880 to 1881. He was a powerful and influential figure in the northeast of the country, along with General Francisco Naranjo. However, his power declined with the rise of General Bernardo Reyes, who opposed his political views. He participated in the beginning of the Mexican Revolution after the fall of Reyes and Francisco I. Madero in the overthrow of Porfirio Díaz. He briefly served as the Governor of Nuevo León again in 1913, under the regime of Victoriano Huerta, but he refused to join the movement against Huerta. He went into exile in the United States, where he died in 1914.
