Jaime Humberto Hermosillo

Jaime Humberto Hermosillo was one of the most original and controversial directors of Mexican cinema. He was often compared to Spain's Pedro Almodóvar for his exploration of the hypocrisy of middle-class Mexican values, especially in relation to sexuality, family, and morality. He worked with Nobel laureate Gabriel García Márquez on two films, Mary My Dearest (1979) and The Summer of Miss Forbes (1988). He also won two Ariel Awards for best film and best director for The Passion of Berenice (1976) and Shipwreck (1977). He taught film-making at the University of Guadalajara and collaborated with his students on several projects. He died at the age of 77, nine days before his 78th birthday.
