Roman Dmowski

Roman Dmowski was a Polish politician and the co-founder of the National Democracy movement in Poland. He was a leader of Poland's struggle for national liberation and independence from the Russian Empire. He advocated for cooperation with Russia and its Western allies as a means to achieve that goal. He was a member of the Russian Duma and a vocal spokesman for Polish interests. He later formed a National Committee in Switzerland, which was recognized by the Allies as the official representative of Poland. He participated in the Paris Peace Conference and signed the Treaty of Versailles, which restored Poland's sovereignty. He briefly served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1923, but retired from active politics afterwards. He was a staunch opponent of Józef Piłsudski and his Sanation regime, and a critic of the multicultural and multiethnic character of the Second Polish Republic. He died of pneumonia in 1939, shortly before the outbreak of World War II.
