He got his first break in the film industry when he sang a song for A.R. Rahman's soundtrack of Rangeela (1995). He then moved to Mumbai and became a successful playback singer in Hindi and other languages. He sang for many popular films and actors, such as Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Gangster (2006), Om Shanti Om (2007), Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Aashiqui 2 (2013), and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). He also released his own albums, such as Pal (1999), Humsafar (2008), and KK: The Best of Me (2015). He won several awards and accolades for his singing, including the Screen Award, the Filmfare Award, the IIFA Award, the Zee Cine Award, and the Mirchi Music Award. He was also nominated for the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour in India. He collaborated with many other singers and musicians, such as Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Arijit Singh, and Vishal-Shekhar. He was known for his versatile and expressive voice, his ability to sing in different genres and languages, and his passion for music.
