Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka

Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka was a Polish-American philosopher who studied under Roman Ingarden and Józef Maria Bocheński. She obtained her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Fribourg and another Ph.D. in French philosophy and literature from the Sorbonne. She taught at Oregon State College, Pennsylvania State University, Radcliffe College, and St. John's University. She was the founder and president of The World Phenomenology Institute and the editor of the book series Analecta Husserliana. She had a long friendship and academic collaboration with Pope John Paul II, whom she met in 1973. She translated his book Person and Act into English and co-authored several other works with him. She was also interested in art and music and wrote about the phenomenology of beauty and creativity. She died in 2014 at the age of 91.
