Ulrich Schrade

Ulrich Schrade was a Polish philosopher, educationist and ethicist. He was born in Patryki, a village in East Prussia (now Poland). He studied economics at the Higher School of Economics in Sopot, Poland, and later philosophy at the University of Warsaw under Bogusław Wolniewicz. He worked at the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences at the Warsaw University of Technology, where he founded a specific current of philosophy of science and technology and contributed to the theory of higher education. He was also a visiting professor at the Pultusk Academy of Humanities. He was interested in the general problems of anthropology and axiology and education theory. He was a member of the Disciplinary Commission of the Higher Education Council and board member of the Polish Philosophical Society. He received several awards for his work, including the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Medal of the National Education Commission. He died in Warsaw in 2009.
