Grethe Sonck

Grethe Sønck was a Danish actress and singer who was one of the most popular and influential artists in Denmark. She started her career as a singer at the Restaurant Sommerlyst at Dyrehavsbakken in 1947, after winning a talent contest. She became a revue actress in Cirkusrevyen at Dyrehavsbakken in 1962, and later performed in many other revues, such as Nykøbing Falster Revyen and Rottefælden. She also appeared in many films and TV shows, such as The Greeneyed Elephant, Don Olsen kommer til byen, Der var engang, Naboerne, The Olsen Gang, and Krummerne. She sang in a variety of genres, from jazz and blues to folk and pop. She was known for her expressive voice and her humorous and charming personality. She was married twice, first to Hjalmar Nicolausen and then to Sejr Volmer-Sørensen, whom she met in 1958. She changed her surname to Sønck in 1968. She received many awards and honors, such as the Teaterpokalen, the IFPI Honorary Award, and the Order of the Dannebrog. She died of natural causes at the age of 80, in her home in Rågeleje.
