Ellen Winther

Ellen Winther was a Danish singer and actress who was one of the most popular and versatile performers in Denmark. She started her career as an opera singer and made her professional debut in 1957 at the Royal Danish Theatre, where she worked for 13 years both as a singer and a dramatic actress. She also voiced the Danish version of Aurora in the 1959 Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty. In 1962, she won the Danish Eurovision Song Contest selection with the song "Vuggevise" and represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest in Luxembourg, where she finished in joint 10th place. She also appeared in many films and TV shows, such as Jomfruburet, Valsedrømme, Flagermusen, and Matador, where she played Minna Varnæs. She also performed in many operettas, musicals, and revues, and recorded several albums and songs. She received many awards and honors, such as the Teaterpokalen, the IFPI Honorary Award, and the Order of the Dannebrog. She died two days after her 78th birthday.
