Esther Seligson

Esther Seligson was born in 1941 in Mexico City, to a family of Orthodox Jews. She studied chemistry, Spanish and French literature, art history, and Jewish culture at various universities in Mexico, France, and Israel. She began publishing her literary works in 1965, and won several awards, such as the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize and the Magda Donato Award. She also taught theater history, comparative religion, Jewish philosophy, and other subjects at different institutions. She had a wide range of interests and influences, including mythology, mysticism, theater, and art. She translated works by Emile Michel Cioran, Edmond Jabès, and Marguerite Yourcenar, among others. She died in 2010 in Mexico City, leaving behind a rich and diverse legacy of books, poems, short stories, and translations.
