Mogens Ballin

Mogens Ballin was a Danish painter and metalworker, who was influenced by the French Realist movement and the Nabis group of artists. He converted to Catholicism in 1893 and became active in the religious and cultural circles of Copenhagen. He founded a metal workshop in 1899, where he produced decorative and artistic objects in tin, bronze, silver and gold. He collaborated with other artists such as Siegfried Wagner, Gudmund Hentze and Ludvig Find. His metalwork inspired later Danish craftsmen such as Georg Jensen and Just Andersen. He also made many portraits and lithographs of prominent figures of his time, such as Paul Gauguin, Johannes Jørgensen, Paul Sérusier and Jan Verkade. He died in Hellerup in 1914 at the age of 42.
