About me / Bio:
Yevgeny Primakov was a Russian politician and diplomat who served as Prime Minister of Russia from 1998 to 1999. During his long career, he also served as Foreign Minister, Speaker of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union, and chief of the intelligence service. Primakov was an academician and a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was one of the founders and vice-chairman of the ruling United Russia party. He was known for transforming Moscow into the engine of post-Soviet state capitalism, overseeing large construction projects, improving the city's infrastructure and public services, and attracting foreign investment. He was also criticized for corruption, demolishing historic buildings, and poor handling of traffic and environmental issues. He was dismissed from his post by President Dmitry Medvedev in 2010, after a series of conflicts with the federal government. He died in Munich, Germany, in 2015, at the age of 85.
