Gad al-Haq Ali Gad al-Haq

Gad al-Haq was a prominent Egyptian religious leader who served as the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the highest authority in Sunni Islam, from 1982 to 1996. He was also the Minister of Religious Affairs and the Grand Mufti of Egypt. He was known for his conservative views on Islamic law and theology, as well as his opposition to the Wahhabi doctrine and the Oslo Accords. He was awarded the King Faisal International Prize in 1995 for his efforts to promote brotherhood among Muslims and to improve the conditions of Muslim minorities. He died of a heart attack in Cairo in 1996.
