Lyubov Popova

Lyubov Popova was a Russian avant-garde artist, painter and designer. She was influenced by Cubism, Futurism, Suprematism and Constructivism. She studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and the Académie de la Palette in Paris. She joined the Jack of Diamonds group and exhibited with the Peredvizhniki. She was a pioneer of abstract art and experimented with geometric forms and dynamic compositions. She also worked on stage design, book illustration and textile design. She was a communist and a supporter of the October Revolution. She taught at the Institute of Artistic Culture and the Higher State Art-Technical Studios. She died of scarlet fever in 1924 at the age of 35.
