Ismail Sidky

Ismail Sidky was an Egyptian politician who served as Prime Minister of Egypt from 1930 to 1933 and again in 1946. He was born in Alexandria and graduated from the Khedival Law School. He joined the public prosecutor’s office and later became the administrative secretary of the Alexandria municipal commission. He was also a member of the Wafd Party, a nationalist movement that demanded independence from Britain. He participated in the 1919 Egyptian Revolution and was deported to Malta with other Wafd leaders. He later broke away from the Wafd and joined the moderate faction of Abdel Fattah Yahya Pasha. As Prime Minister, he introduced several political reforms, such as abolishing the capitulations, granting women the right to vote, and reducing the power of the monarchy. He also faced several challenges, such as the Great Depression, the Italo-Ethiopian War, and the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood. He resigned twice due to conflicts with King Fuad and King Farouk. He died in 1950 at the age of 75.
