Nazir Ahmed

Nazir Ahmed was a Pakistani medical researcher, writer, and entrepreneur who founded the Hamdard Foundation, a charitable organization that promotes education, health, and social welfare. He was born in Delhi, India in 1898 and received his education from the Tibbiya College and the Aligarh Muslim University. He was a disciple of Hakim Ajmal Khan, a renowned physician and leader of the Indian independence movement. He migrated to Pakistan in 1948 and established the Hamdard Laboratories, which produced herbal medicines and products. He also founded the Hamdard University, the Madinat al-Hikmah (City of Education, Science and Culture), and the Hamdard Public School. He wrote more than 200 books and articles on various topics, such as medicine, history, philosophy, and Islam. He was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian honour of Pakistan, in 1992. He was also a recipient of the Sitara-e-Pakistan, the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, and the Independence Day Medal. He died in Karachi, Pakistan in 1998 at the age of 100. He was assassinated by unknown gunmen while on his way to offer prayers at a mosque.
