Mohammed Oreibi Al Khalifa

Mohammed Oreibi Al-Khalifa was an Iraqi judge who served under Saddam Hussein's presidency. He was the chief judge of the Iraqi Special Tribunal's Al-Anfal trial, which sentenced Saddam and his cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as Chemical Ali, to death for crimes against humanity related to the 1987-88 crackdown against Kurdish rebels. He was appointed as the chief judge in 2006, after he replaced Abdullah al-Amiri, who was accused of being too soft on Saddam. He was known for his strict and impartial conduct of the trial, and for tolerating very few disruptions from Saddam and his co-defendants. He died on 2 April 2021, at a hospital in Baghdad after contracting COVID-19. He was 51 years old.
