Wang Fuchun was a Chinese photographer and railway worker who captured the beauty and diversity of China's people and society through his candid shots of train passengers. He started his career as an engine driver in 1963 and became a photographer in 1984. He travelled across the country on various railway lines, taking over 200,000 photographs with his Seagull camera. He kept the rolls of film in his home, which occupied most of the space. His most famous work, Chinese on the Train, was published in 2001 and won him international acclaim and awards. He was also listed as one of the most influential photographers by Invisible Photographer Asia in 2014. His photographs were exhibited at the National Railway Museum in York in 2019. He died from an undisclosed illness on March 13, 2021, at the age of 79.
