About me / Bio:
Dadasaheb Phalke was a pioneer of Indian cinema who directed, produced, wrote, edited, and acted in many films. He was fascinated by the art of photography and printing, and experimented with various techniques and mediums. He was inspired by the silent film The Life of Christ (1906) and decided to make films based on Indian mythology and culture. He founded his own production company, Phalke Films, and made his first film, Raja Harishchandra (1913), which is regarded as the first Indian feature film. He faced many challenges and hardships in his career, such as lack of funds, equipment, actors, and audience. He also had conflicts with his partners and distributors, and faced competition from foreign films. He made several films that are considered classics of Indian cinema, such as Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918), and Kaliya Mardan (1919). He also made documentary films, short films, educational films, and comic films. He was a visionary who foresaw the potential of cinema as a medium of entertainment, education, and expression. He also trained many actors and technicians who later became prominent figures in the film industry. He retired from filmmaking in 1937 and died in 1944. He was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema, which is named after him. He is widely regarded as the father of Indian cinema and one of the most influential figures in the history of cinema.
