Alvaro Obregon

Alvaro Obregon was a Mexican general and politician who played a key role in the Mexican Revolution. He fought against the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz and later against the counter-revolutionary forces of Victoriano Huerta and Pancho Villa. He supported Venustiano Carranza as the leader of the constitutionalist faction and became his minister of war. He was elected president in 1920 after overthrowing Carranza in a coup. As president, he implemented important reforms and policies in areas such as education, labor, and agriculture. He also promoted the cultural movement known as the Mexican Renaissance, which fostered the development of art, literature, and music. He was reelected in 1928, but was assassinated before taking office by a religious fanatic named Jose de Leon Toral.
