About me / Bio:
Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who went into hiding with her family and four other people in a secret annex behind a bookcase in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. She kept a diary of her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944, expressing her thoughts, feelings, fears, hopes, and dreams. Her diary, which she named Kitty, was given to her as a birthday present in 1942 and became her best friend and confidant. She wrote about the daily events in the annex, the relationships among the people, the news of the war, the persecution of the Jews, and her own personal struggles and growth. Her diary is considered a masterpiece of literature and a testimony of the human spirit. It has been translated into more than 70 languages and has inspired millions of readers around the world. Anne Frank's life and diary have also been adapted into several plays and films. Anne Frank's hiding place was discovered by the Nazis on August 4, 1944, after an anonymous tip. She and the other people in the annex were arrested and deported to various concentration camps. Anne and her sister Margot were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen, where they died of typhus in early 1945, shortly before the liberation of the camp. Their exact date of death is unknown, but it is estimated to be in late February or early March. Anne Frank was 15 years old when she died. Her father Otto Frank was the only survivor of the group. He returned to Amsterdam after the war and found Anne's diary, which had been saved by one of his employees, Miep Gies. He decided to publish it as a tribute to his daughter and as a message of hope and peace for humanity. He also established the Anne Frank Foundation to preserve the annex as a museum and to promote education and human rights. Anne Frank's diary has become one of the most widely read books in history and one of the most influential documents of the 20th century. It has been recognized as a literary and historical treasure by various organizations and institutions, such as UNESCO, The New York Public Library, Time Magazine, and The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Anne Frank's legacy lives on through her diary and through the many people who have been inspired by her courage, wisdom, and compassion. She is remembered as a symbol of hope, resilience, and dignity in the face of oppression and injustice. She is also celebrated as a talented writer who expressed her unique voice and vision with honesty and eloquence. As she wrote in her diary: "I want to go on living even after my death! And therefore I am grateful to God for giving me this gift...of expressing all that is in me."
